Q-emuLator 1.0 requires a Macintosh with color monitor, 4M RAM and system 7.0 or later. A 68040 Mac is recommended. You need also a QL (NOT a QXL) with 3.5" floppy disk drive to get the QL's ROM.
HOW?
----
You can order Q-emuLator by writing to me by e-mail (Internet), to
sistest@ictp.trieste.it
or by mail, to
Daniele Terdina
via dei Navali 16/1
34143 Trieste
ITALY
or through the Fido net (if you can, please use e-mail instead, as the Fido
net shouldn't be used for commercial reasons)
Daniele Terdina ('International QL' area)
matrix address: 2:332/811.5
Note: If you write to me by e-mail (the preferred method) I'll send you a
reply. If the reply doesn't arrive consider that I never saw the order and use
another method. The reason is that my e-mail address could change in the
future.
METHOD OF PAYMENT:
You will pay for the package when you receive it, directly to the
postman or to the postal office.
IMPORTANT:
Don't forget your mail address in your order! (Yes, it is obvious; but it may
happen.)
WHAT?
-----
The Q-emuLator package contains the following items:
- a 1440K Macintosh floppy disk
- a 14 page manual
- the instructions to install Q-emuLator
The floppy disk contains…
- the program Q-emuLator 1.0
- Q-emuLator 0.9 LITE (a stripped down and slower version that requires
less RAM and works with B&W monitors)
- Q-emuLator 1.0 DEMO (the demonstrative version of Q-emuLator)
- part of the Q-emuLator's C source code (the M68008 emulation portion)
- a few tiny QL freeware programs
- information about the QL (QL FAQ and QL Service list, by Robert H. Klein)
- a freeware MacOS text editor (BBEdit Lite 3.0, courtesy of Bare Bones
Software, Inc.) to read the text files included in the package
Note: The Q-emuLator 1.0 application will be preregistered with your name.
HOW MUCH?
---------
Q-emuLator took over a year to develop and now it is a stable Macintosh
application and the compatibility with QL software is very good. The main
disadvantage is that it is quite slow. However, with a 68040 based
Macintosh you should obtain a speed comparable to that of the original QL.
For all the efforts it took to develop it, I believe that Q-emuLator is worth
L.50000 (Italian lire, about $33, £20, or DM46 on December 1995) plus expenses.
Mail delivery costs L.6600 to Italy and L.13900 to other countries. For
oversea orders add up to L.3000 (it depends on the country) for air mail.
Examples:
Buying from Italy: L.50000+L.2100+L.6600 = L.58700
Buying from Europe: L.50000+L.2100+L.13900 = L.66000 (about £27, or DM60 on December 1995)
Buying from USA: L.50000+L.2100+L.13900+L.2400 = L.68400 (about $46 on December 1995)
Buying from Australia: L.50000+L.2100+L.13900+L.3000 = L.69000
IMPORTANT:
The price might vary slightly due to variability in mail delivery costs and
the package's exact weight. You will pay to the postman or to the postal
office using your currency, so the exchange rate applied by the mail service
may vary, too.
REDUCED PRICE FOR STUDENTS:
If you are a non working student, just specify so in your order, and you can
pay L.30000 + expenses. [I am a student too.]
You ought to be able to prove your position when required.
If you don't want to pay for it
-------------------------------
You might want to see Q-emuLator without having to pay for it. For example
you may just be curious, or you may have an old Macintosh on which Q-
emuLator would run too slow, or you may want to use Q-emuLator only to
transfer files from your QL to your Macintosh, or…
Then just don't pay for it and continue to use the Q-emuLator 0.9 LITE
version of the program that you already have (as this document was
attached to it; if you don't have it, contact me). It is freely usable and
distributable, although it is copyrighted and you can't change nor sell it. To
know the differences between Q-emuLator LITE and Q-emuLator 1.0 refer to
the Q-emuLator LITE manual.
WARRANTY
--------
The first form of warranty are the Q-emuLator LITE and DEMO programs. Before ordering the commercial version of Q-emuLator you can try your QL programs with Q- emuLator LITE. If they work with it, they will work even with Q-emuLator 1.0. The reverse is not true, as there are a few programs that run on Q-emuLator 1.0 but not on Q-emuLator LITE. In this way you know what you buy before actually buying it. The main differences between the two programs are that the commercial version of Q-emuLator is faster and the LITE version lacks some features. Q-emuLator DEMO offers an overview of the true Q-emuLator's speed.
Anyway, if you discover that Q-emuLator 1.0 can't run on your system, or you are not satisfied with it, I'll refund you the L.50000 (30000 for non working students): just send back the package. The refund is always limited to the cost of the program itself, excluding the packaging and delivery costs, which are in any case at your charge. The refund can no longer be requested after seven days since you receive the Q-emuLator package.
Upgrades
--------
Probably other versions of Q-emuLator will follow (although I can't
guarantee on this). Minor upgrades (versions 1.x) will be free and will be
made available on on-line services. Major upgrades (versions 2.x or later,
which will be much faster) will be available to registered users at a special
discounted price (33% discount or more).
If you don't have access to on-line services specify so in your order and I'll
inform you about upgrades by mail. I could also send the upgrades by mail,
